Anyone who knows me knows that I generally avoid advertising like the plague. I just don’t want all the hype trying to get me to buy a bunch of stuff I don’t need and don’t have room for! But I stumbled on this video from Dove® some time ago, and found it so encouraging!
Yet it sadly shows what low self-esteem so many of us have, especially women. With the over-emphasis society places on physical appearance, we often concentrate on it too much, and feel we never measure up. “My ears are too big, my nose is too small, and I’ve got a weird chin. Me, beautiful?” (That’s how I often see myself!)
The women in this film tended (probably like many of us) to focus on their own minor imperfections, or perceived imperfections. But others, meeting them for the first time, noticed sparkly eyes, friendly smiles, and happy joyous spirits.
Not only skin-deep
Why? Because True Beauty—it isn’t only skin-deep. But how about you? How do see yourself? The artist in this video asks women to describe themselves. How would you answer his questions?
Give it a quick watch, it only takes 3 minutes. I think it’s time to change the way we think about ourselves. We need a glimmer of how others might see us.
And of how God sees us. We are his creations, and he gave us those particular traits and quirks that make us unique and special. No else in the world has lovely eyes just like yours, or such a cute, quirky nose!
God thinks we’re beautiful and he views us in the same way little children see their own drawings. Imperfect and messy, but in their eyes beautiful works of art!
True beauty
Beauty truly is more than skin-deep. It’s who and what we are on the inside. It’s a kind and gentle spirit. A thankful heart that showers gratitude. A caring word and warm hug. That kind of beauty outshines even the largest nose or any amount of wrinkles! We are more than just a pretty face. And if a pretty face is all we have, then we’re not really beautiful at all.
Don’t you know? You really are beautiful
Beauty is something internal that can’t be destroyed. Beauty expresses itself in a gentle and quiet attitude which God considers precious.

It is indeed an amazing video, Lynn. And what an artist to draw such astonishingly accurate images of people sight unseen! But best of all is that we are beautiful in God’s eyes!
